REACHing Ahead
Strategic planning enters next phase
As President Maurie McInnis said in her recent State of the University Address, Stony Brook University is ready to soar toward a bold, exciting future. “It’s only up to us to determine just how high and how far this institution can go,” she said.
To get to that future, the university has been working diligently this past year on the development and implementation of Project REACH (REimagine, Accelerate CHange), the strategic plan that will guide where we go and how we get there over the course of the next five years.
Provost Carl Lejuez, who is leading this initiative, recently held several workshops to share details on the next phase of Project REACH and stressed the importance of the need for faculty and staff input into the plan. He noted that the goal was to finalize the framework of the plan — the vision, value and priorities — by the end of the fall semester. But first he wanted those in attendance to go back to their departments to encourage more feedback to pull in the “wisdom of the whole university” to help guide the direction the plan will go.
“The spring will be when we go into initiatives and metrics before moving forward in terms of creating annual action plans,” he said. “We will do our best to include as many different opportunities for engagement and working groups throughout the process.”
Once the strategic plan is implemented, Lejuez said, “it will be an active plan that will be annually refreshed and renewed, and will provide direction for unit plans, as well as take cues from those plans. Finally, it will also help us make strategic decisions in how we invest our time and our resources to the benefit of our students, staff, faculty and the communities we serve.”
