Meet SBU’s Next President
Trailblazing Educator Selected to Lead SBU
Andrea Goldsmith, PhD, a renown educator, engineer and entrepreneur, has been named as Stony Brook University’s seventh president.
“I can’t wait to seize the many opportunities to advance Stony Brook’s excellence across all dimensions of research, education, innovation and service to the local community, the great state of New York, the country and the world,” Goldsmith said after the State University of New York Board of Trustees announced they had unanimously approved her selection at an executive session in February.
“Andrea is simply an unusual combination of academic leadership and business savvy that we believe will help make Stony Brook an even more outstanding university,” said Kevin Law ’82, Chair, Presidential Search Committee, as he lauded Goldsmith’s experience at Princeton University, more than 20 years at Stanford University, and her staunch support of women in science, particularly engineering.
Goldsmith, currently Dean of Engineering and Applied Sciences and the Arthur LeGrand Doty Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Princeton University, will start her tenure as SBU’s next president on August 1.
