Warmth & Light

The Office of Marketing and Communications’ pets are providing some sunshine to get us through the winter blues.

Mochi

10lb mini poodle, 2.5

What is Mochi looking forward to this winter?

“For her, the answer is always “More treats and more sunbathing!” This winter, she’s dreaming of extra chicken treats and freeze-dried liver—her absolute favorites. She’s a little spoiled (okay, a lot), and she hates going outside when it’s freezing. Every morning, she gets so excited for us to open the front door, just so she can find the perfect sunny spot to lounge in all day.

Between her sunbathing sessions, she loves wrestling with her favorite toy, Lamb Chop, like the little queen she is. Winter’s cold, but she keeps it cozy.”

—Pet parent: Ying Zong, Lead Programmer/Analyst

Yuki & Ted

Labrador Retriever, 8 and Retriever/Hound Mix, 7

Ted, ever on the prowl, is looking forward to the more quiet time of winter, when his yard is safe from critter scoundrels. While Yuki, as most labs do, continues her quest to eat all the things.

How does your pet help you through the long winter?
“Their joy over the little things — a walk, dinner time, being with their family — is contagious. When I’m met at my front door with wagging tales of happiness and a welcoming paw my heart lifts. The light they, and all pets, shine is something the world could use more of right now.”

— Shelley Catalano, Executive Editor

Sunny

Tabby / Perhaps Maine Coon and/or Bengal cat mix, 13

This winter I’m looking forward to prancing around in the snow again, for a little winter adventure! (supervised by my dad, of course.” — Sunny

How does Sunny help get you through the long winter?

“By being a worthy and efficient assistant, taking notes during remote work always keeps me on my toes when dark out or during tiring winter weather.”

— Pet parent: — Greg Filiano, Media Relations Manager, Stony Brook Medicine

Mickey

Yorkie, 13

"This winter, I can't wait to snuggle up in my cozy blanket on the living room couch, where my favorite humans can spoil me."

Eliza, Eddie, Clara, Abigail (Piglet)

Eliza & Eddie, Tabbico (Tabby/Calico Mix), 1.5
Clara, Tortoiseshell, 12
Abigail (aka Piglet), Tabby, 8

"Hi, Eliza here. Mommy asked me to tell our story as I am her most loyal coworker, her home office chair being my favorite spot! Since my twin brother Eddie and I were featured in a previous SBU Magazine edition as 'wee' kittens, we've grown, as has the Cooke Cat Clan at home.
Our nieces — Clara and 'Piglet' are now living with us. I don't tend to interact with them all that much but do appreciate getting to sample all four food bowls (though Mommy has laughed that it's all the same food). Eddie, though, often naps with Clara on mommy's bed and loves to play in the cat tunnel with Piglet…

…My preferences continue to be launching up to the tops of shower doors, high cabinets and the kitchen pantry closet. I am looking forward to continuing all of these activities and antics into the winter, with many heights still left to scale. Thanks for checking in again and that's 'meow for now' ... Oh and mom says happy holidays ..." — Eliza
